The Wiz opened at the Majestic Theatre on Broadway on January 5, 1975 (it had been previewing since December 24). The production ran until January 28, 1979, playing 1,672 performances. When the Majestic was given to another show, The Wiz transferred to the Broadway Theatre on May 25, 1977.
