Recordings

The following is a list of audio recordings of The Wiz.

Original Broadway Cast
Released by Motown, the recording was obviously geared toward the pop market. What it lacks in theatricality, it makes up for in energy and infectious enthusiasm. The cast can't be beat. It would have been nice to have the ballets and song buttons preserved, however.
Film Soundtrack
A double-CD (and LP) set containing the music from the film version. It's got a lot of polish, but conversely it feels very low-key.
Single (film)
The rare LP-sized single contains "Ease on Down the Road" and "Poppy Girls".
TV Soundtrack
The rare LP-sized single contains "Ease on Down the Road" and "Poppy Girls".

Dutch Cast
Cast recording for the 2006 Dutch revival. Also available in CD/DVD combination.
The Onus
Jazz cover of the score.
Peter Nero
Peter Nero medley of music was released on a 45 disc and as one side of an LP.
Studio 79
The disco group Studio 79 performs selections from the film score.

Kids Stuff Repertory
1978 recording for the kiddies to rock out to.
Mexican Cast
Cast recording of the 1992 Mexican production.
1994 Dutch Cast
Another Dutch cast recording (the Dutch are apparently crazy for The Wiz).
Peruvian Cast
Cast recording for the 2010 Peruvian production.

Diana Ross Sings The Wiz
Recently released after sitting in the vaults, it was recorded around the time of the film's release and features Diana Ross singing selections from the score.
Akinori Nakagawa
The Japanese singer performs the score in concert.
